| | Excellent Online Casinos News Archive| Online Casinos to Suffer Due to New Russian Law | | | Publication Date: 28 Dec 2006 | | When Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, stated that he wanted to severely restrict gambling at traditional and online casinos, nobody doubted that this tough politician would get his way in the end. A recent bill was proposed in the Russian parliament – the Duma – whereby traditional gambling would be restricted to four zones and online casinos would become a thing of the past in the country. If Putin’s law goes according to plan, online casinos will be removed from Russia by 2009.
Vladimir Putin wants to put a stop to the spread of uncontrolled gambling – and that includes gambling at online casinos as well. But online casinos are not the only type of gambling institutions that Putin wants to do away with. The president wants to see an end to the hundreds of casinos and poker rooms that have sprung up in urban centers, making it an extremely enticing pastime for anybody who happens to walk past. If Putin has his way, gambling will be restricted to four specific areas in the country’s vast terrain - the Altai Territory, Primorye (Far East), the Kaliningrad Region and the border of the Rostov Region and the Krasnodar Territory in the south.
Many restrictions have already been placed on land based and online casinos and any casino that does not meet these high standards will be closed immediately. Others have until 2009 to prove that they are worthy of being allowed to operate. This new bill – which is bound to become law – is certainly not good news for online casinos operating in Russia these days.
