| | Excellent Online Casinos News Archive| Online Casinos Advertising Faces Block in UK | | | Publication Date: 14 Feb 2007 | | Online casinos companies that are based outside Gibraltar and Europe will have to appeal to the government if they want to run advertising campaigns for their online casinos in the UK. The activity of publicizing and advertising will be legalized on September 1st, 2007. The British Culture Secretary, Tessa Jowell, stated that a ban on online casino websites run by companies with poor regulation would protect online gambling fans from crime and exploitation.
‘The main problem is that we are dependent on people making a voluntary contribution. There is some concern (from online gambling companies) about the costs of implementing the Gambling Act,’ said John Greenway, Conservative MP and chairman of the Responsibility in Gambling Trust. The legalization of online gambling and deregulation of online casinos are part of a series of measures voted through under the 2005 Gambling Act that will update the current gambling laws for the UK. The Gambling Act makes advertising rules more lenient for UK bookmakers and online casinos operators. However, gaming websites based outside the European Economic Area and Gibraltar who wish to advertise will have to provide official licensing regimes which protect children, discourage crime and ensure that online gambling is fair.
A vote of MPs regarding the online casinos advertising law will take place once Ms. Jowell outlines the timetable and procedure for the government to respond to the recommendation. Now Ms. Jowell has instructed officials to set procedures in motion that would force companies to contribute a tax to the Responsibility in Gambling Trust in order to assist online casinos problem gamblers.
