The Canadian lawsuit follows a complaint filed in September in the Central District of California federal court and both suits are seeking class action status. Daniel Kodam, attorney for he California case, said “Several millions in the US take Mirapex for Parkinson's and other conditions and about 2.5 percent of Mirapex users develop an online casinos gambling addiction”. Darcy Merkur, who represents the Canadian suit, said “These people have no history of online casinos gambling and they don't have a tendency to gamble at online casinos''.
A study published in an issue of ``Neurology'' shows researchers concluded that high amounts of drugs used to treat Parkinson's, including Mirapex, might lead to an online casinos gambling addition among some patients. Researchers examined statistics of almost 2,000 Parkinson's patients and 9 of the patients were diagnosed as pathological online casinos gamblers. 7 people reported they started online casinos gambling within a month of the increase in the amount of Mirapex or other similar Parkinson's medication they were taking. 2 patients lost more than $60,000 in online casinos gambling and none of them had an online casinos gambling problem before taking the drugs.
A spokesman for Pfizer, Bryant Haskins, said the company didn’t review the suit filed in Canada yet so he is not in a position to respond. “Pfizer isn't aware of evidence to an association between Mirapex and an obsessive online casinos gambling behavior and all reports about online casinos gambling behavior in relationship with Mirapex were sent by the company to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration”. Boehringer Ingelheim, the Germany-based family-owned drug company, didn't respond to these accusations so far.
