| | Excellent Online Casinos News Archive| Can TV and Radio Stations Advertise Casino Gambling? | | | Publication Date: 1 Feb 2006 | | The United States Supreme Court has ruled that public media broadcasters may now be allowed to air broadcasted advertisement for gambling resorts and casinos on two conditions – that the gambling resort be legal and that gambling be legalized in the state where the advertisement will be broadcasted. The problem is that in practice, no one knows for sure whether casinos are now free to advertise in every state, or only in a state that has legalized casino gambling.
For many years the Federal Communications Commission punished broadcasters who displayed people gambling. Even the word casino could not be used, unless it was an official part of the company’s name. As the popularity of online casinos and gambling spread throughout the country, the big shots in the gambling industry were losing their patience with the FCC. The FCC was finally taken to court when the broadcasters could no longer ignore the lost millions of dollars in revenue.
The law is not limited to American casinos alone. The law can also apply to Canadian casinos. The exact law may require that states that do not allow online gambling in their territory to block radio and TV stations from airing broadcasts for such companies, but in practice it is hard to stop a person in Utah from picking up a gambling related advert in from another nearby state which allow casino commercials. |
